Will Washington State Republicans reclaim the Third District Seat and send a Gold Star husband and Special Forces combat veteran and father to Congress in 2024?
After losing to Democrat candidate Marie Glusenkamp Perez in 2022, Joe Kent has geared up for a rematch and has an aggressive plan to win in 2024.
In 2022, Democrat Marie Glusenkamp Perez narrowly defeated MAGA Republican Joe Kent by less than 1% of the vote. In 2024, Joe Kent is challenging Glusenkamp Perez to a rematch – hopefully without having to again endure a divided Republican voter base in the state’s open primary system.
Joe Kent was the top MAGA candidate in the 2022 midterms. Trump endorsed Kent then, and is expected to endorse Trump again this cycle.
“An ex-Green Beret combat veteran and Gold Star husband, Kent first met Trump at Dover Air Force Base in 2019, after Kent’s wife, Navy cryptologist Shannon Kent, was killed by a suicide bomber in Syria while fighting the Islamic State terrorist group.”
Trump endorsed Kent last year, calling him “a warrior for the America First agenda…”
Joe Kent’s campaign is already in full campaign mode including holding weekly town hall meetings throughout the district and via online platforms.
One major change in Kent’s campaign strategy this time around is that Kent will go after the early vote. In 2022 Kent’s campaign encouraged same-day voting. But Washington State is a 100% mail-in ballot state; same day voters mail their ballot or drop off their completed ballot in cover envelopes on Election Day. The Democrats had the three week voting window to effectively chase their missing voters, which Kent did not. Results showed there were many missing Republican voters in the 2022 general election, likely the result of a divisive Republican primary. To depress as much vote fraud as possible, signature verification of the signatures on the ballot cover envelopes is critical under this very insecure system.
The good news is that Joe Kent has been through this process in 2022, and he has an experienced team so Kent will be as prepared as possible to combat election fraud.
On Saturday, Congressman Matt Gaetz is flying in to support Joe Kent. It is expected that Kevin McCarthy will also support Joe Kent this election cycle rather than waste valuable Republican resources in a contentious primary.
The WA03 district has a Republican edge, and if the Republicans all unite behind Joe Kent, Kent should be able to defeat Glusenkamp Perez and reclaim a Republican House seat that was lost needlessly in 2022.
